ERA was engaged by Tourism Tasmania to map the existing public and private supply of infrastructure and services for the caravan and camping market. The project is a key task under the T21 Visitor Economy Action Plan, which outlines priorities for the Tasmanian tourism industry to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Priority 1 is Rebuilding Visitation, including maximising opportunities for drive holidays and road trips associated with the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels launching in 2024.

ERA undertook a comprehensive review of public and private data available on existing caravan and camping infrastructure in Tasmania, including caravan parks, camping grounds and ancillary facilities such as public toilets, RV dump points and EV charging stations. To provide an indication of the capacity across the state, attribute data (such as number of sites available) was populated through further research. This information was collated and spatially represented to provide an understanding of capacity across the tourism regions and local councils across Tasmania.

We acknowledge and respect Tasmanian Aboriginal people as the Traditional Owners of Lutruwita (Tasmania).

They are the original custodians of our land and waters. We respect their unique ability to care for country and deep spiritual connection to it.

We honour Elders past, present and emerging whose knowledge and wisdom has and will ensure the continuation of culture and traditional practices.
