ERA worked with Liminal Architecture to secure planning approval for this progressive youth social housing development in 2021. The land is in the ownership of Housing Tasmania, with part of the site already used for community housing.

The site was specifically chosen for easy access to educational opportunities, and other city services. Each resident has their own own self-contained studio apartment, along with access to communal facilities offering support and training services. The development aims to foster a sense of community cohesion and belonging and create opportunities for life-long learning and independence.

The building design was complicated as it involved alterations and extensions to the existing communal social housing on the site, including reallocation of on-site parking and the relocation of the existing forecourt garden area. To mitigate any impacts resulting from these changes, an additional garden/landscaped area was provided at ground and first floor levels, with improved connections for the existing occupants on the site.

Approvals were granted by the City of Hobart in 2021, with construction completed in 2023.

We acknowledge and respect Tasmanian Aboriginal people as the Traditional Owners of Lutruwita (Tasmania).

They are the original custodians of our land and waters. We respect their unique ability to care for country and deep spiritual connection to it.

We honour Elders past, present and emerging whose knowledge and wisdom has and will ensure the continuation of culture and traditional practices.
