ERA, with Terroir Architects and Playstreet, were engaged by the Glenorchy City Council to assist in the development of the Greater Glenorchy Plan. The Greater Glenorchy area has grown and evolved with many new development and activities over the past decade and is recognised for its enormous potential for urban renewal around the transit corridor and rail line. The plan is part of a coordinate strategic planning effort across Greater Hobart as part of the Hobart City Deal.

Focussing on the three major activity centres in the Glenorchy Local Government Area: Glenorchy CBD, Moonah and Claremont, the plan comprises a set of strategic objectives, urban design principles and a high-level precinct plan for each centre.

Building on earlier work undertake for Council as ‘The 20’ who undertook engagement with the community to understand their values and what aspirations there are, the precinct plans articulate the identity, role and function of each activity centre. They highlight and build on notable differences that influence their growth and features having regard to the established policy and strategic planning framework, including the regional land use strategy. Importantly it also aligns with Council’s Future Glenorchy Program.

The Greater Glenorchy Plan will inform future reviews of the planning scheme as well as the broader metropolitan and regional level strategic planning.
