In early 2018, ERA Planning was engaged to provide expert evidence in support of the proposed use and development of the King Island Abattoir. The key planning matters addressed were whether the use was required to locate on rural resource land for operational efficiency and whether the building height was consistent with the rural landscape.

ERA prepared a statement of evidence addressing the planning matters and reviewed all relevant opposing evidence prior to the hearing.

Emma Riley, Director at ERA, attended the hearing at the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal.

In June 2018, the Tribunal found in favour of the applicant and dismissed the appeal. The appellants appealed to the Supreme Court of Tasmania, which found that the Tribunal correctly approached the application of the law, and it also dismissed the appeal.
