South HobartLiving Arts Centre
ERA were engaged to prepare a development application for a change of use of a site that held no existing use rights, had a residential zoning (and included several residential neighbours) and is listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register and under the Hobart Interim Planning Scheme 2015 . The use proposed is now known as the South Hobart living Arts Centre and provides a central community centre for South Hobart residents as well as a hub for community cultural organisations. In particular, the centre provides office space, general purpose hall space and the operation of a car parking for commercial purposes.
Part of the uses approved were prohibited within the zoning; as such reliance upon the sites heritage listing was required to obtain approval under the Hobart Interim planning Scheme 2015. Due to the sites constraints and residential zoning ERA were required to work collaboratively with a heritage consultant, architect and traffic engineer to ensure planning approval was achieved. ERA successfully obtained planning approval for the project in 2015.
