The Tasmanian Eye Institute is funding a dedicated ophthalmic gene therapy centre in Lenah Valley, a first of its kind in Australia.

ERA has worked with the architects at Cumulus Studio and secured the initial planning approval for the clinic in early 2019. In mid 2020, ERA also secured approval via the planning approval amendment process for a modified design. The clinic will be housed inside a disused and repurposed water tower.

Gene therapy is a technique that uses genes to treat or prevent disease. It is a costly process to provide, and it is hoped that the clinic will receive the required funding to begin construction in the near future.
